Disc Golf team competes in Junior World Championships

Over the past three years disc golf has grown at Miller School. Beginning with two players in the program’s first season, last spring we had nearly 20 players competing in the sport. It has become so popular in our community that we had several of our students take it to the ultimate level.

The PDGA Junior World Championship is the largest and most competitive disc golf tournament in the world. This year’s Disc Golf Junior World Championship had around 400 juniors from 15 countries compete on over 8 courses in the Peoria, Illinois area.

Abi Macdonald, Laina Landseadel and Fin Harrison represented Miller School competing in four rounds over a period of 5 days. The conditions were tough early in the tournament as the smoke from the Canadian wildfires caused many delays and cancellations due to poor air quality and a derecho bringing 80 mph winds and large hail caused more delays and cancellations later in the tournament. MSA players played well and gained valuable experience. They hope to go back next summer when the event is hosted in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
