Matt Benefield joined Miller School of Albemarle in 2022 as its new Director of Finance and Operations. He most recently served as the Director of Finance for the Monticello Area Community Action Agency (MACAA).
Originally from a small town in Northwest Ohio, Matt spent six years in Chicago before moving to Charlottesville to attend graduate school at the University of Virginia in 2007. He and his wife, Stacy, could not bear to leave the beauty – or mild winters, relatively speaking – of Central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley, and have been in the area ever since.
Matt has had a diverse career in such fields as: U.S. intelligence; education, which included five years as the CFO for Orange County Public Schools; real estate; and financial services. After taking a “break” to be a stay-at-home dad with his first child, he scratched his entrepreneurial itch and started a swimming pool service company. However, his passion for education and desire to be part of a close-knit community serving a wonderful mission has brought him back into a school setting and, more specifically, to Miller.
