AFFORDING MSA

We recognize that a Miller School of Albemarle (MSA) education is a significant investment. To make MSA affordable to more families, MSA provides several financial options - need-based financial assistance (nearly $2 million awarded each year), payment plans, and recommended loan options.

Awards to qualified students are made in the form of grants and are based upon a demonstration of financial need, coupled with a student’s individual merit.

Miller School of Albemarle is proud to use the Clarity Application to determine a family’s level of financial need based on the information that families share in the application which includes assets, income, expenses, and debts.

To be considered for aid, a student must apply for admission and be accepted. To get started, please go to the Clarity Application and create an account. The application typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete. Note that the Clarity application is also mobile-friendly. You are also able to save your progress and return at any time. At the end of the application, there is a $60 fee to submit.

Please remember to return to your dashboard after you complete and submit your Clarity Application, as Miller School requires you to upload additional tax documentation.

Financial aid applications are now being reviewed on a rolling basis for the 2024-2025 school year. The majority of the financial aid budget for the 2024-2025 school year has been allotted.

If you need support during the process of completing your application, there is in-app support available through the “Help” button in the bottom left of the screen, as well as email and phone support at support@clarityapp.com or 206-210-3752, in both English and Spanish. The application itself is also fully translated into Spanish.

ANNUAL RENEWAL

Tuition grants are made for one year. Parents must complete an updated Clarity Application each year. Unless there is a significant change in annual income or available assets, parents can normally expect the level of assistance to be continued from year to year.

Applying is easy

Step One

Indicate that you intend to apply for financial aid - To be given full consideration for financial aid, it is important that you indicate your intention to apply for financial aid on the application for admission or by contacting Sam Hale at shale@millerschool.org.

Step Two

In order to determine a family’s eligibility to receive financial aid in a fair and equitable manner, MSA requires that all new and returning applicants complete the Clarity Financial Aid Application.

Step Three

All new applicants for financial aid must submit to Clarity their current year’s and their previous year’s federal income tax returns, including W2s and 1040s with all schedules and attachments. Returning applicants for financial aid need only submit their current year’s taxes. Please upload all supporting documents directly to SSS.

*Questions about the Financial Aid process may be directed to our Assistant Head of School for Enrollment and Student Experience, Sam Hale at shale@millerschool.org or 206-210-3752.

ADDITIONAL  RESOURCES:

529 Plans:
529 Plans are tax-advantaged savings plans designed to encourage saving for educational costs. These qualified tuition plans are sponsored by states, state agencies, or educational institutions and are authorized by Section 529 of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. Recent changes in the tax code allow these funds, previously restricted to post-secondary education, to now be used for independent school tuition.
